The current Macalester chapter of the AAUP was founded in Spring of 2019 as an advisory chapter.*
The mission of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) is to advance academic freedom and shared governance; to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education; to promote the economic security of faculty, academic professionals, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and all those engaged in teaching and research in higher education; to help the higher education community organize to make our goals a reality; and to ensure higher education’s contribution to the common good.
Membership in the chapter is open to all faculty and librarians.
AAUP chapter activity is driven by the initiative and energy of its membership, in accord with the core values and mission of the AAUP. If you have an issue you’d like the AAUP to attend to, come to a meeting and raise the topic.
*The AAUP has two types of chapters, advisory and union. Advisory chapters can include all faculty at Macalester; union chapters can only include NTT faculty and librarians. Should a union chapter be established at Macalester, the two chapters could cooperate, should they so wish.
